Berserk and the Band of the Hawk est un jeu d'action, plus spécifiquement un Beat'em All, prenant place dans l'univers du manga éponyme, Berserk. Le joueur y incarne Guts, le héros de l'œuvre originale, mais peut aussi choisir de contrôler plusieurs autres protagonistes parmi une liste plutôt bien fournie. Le tout dans une trame scénaristique qui se situe dans l'arc The Golden Age du manga. En terme de jouabilité, Berserk and the Band of the Hawk est un Musô, ou un Dynasty Warriors-like. C'est à dire qu'il oppose le joueur à des centaines d'ennemis dans des niveaux semi-ouverts.
